Do you wake up with tired jaws from grinding at? So stressed at work you spend the whole day clenching your teeth? well, you’ve come to the right place!
Bruxism – the grinding of teeth or clenching of jaws.
This little word can cause BIG problems!!
How to know if you suffer from bruxism:
- Aching teeth
- Tired jaws
- Clicking sound when opening or closing
- Teeth/gum tissue sensitivity
- Teeth changing shape over time
- Headaches
Tips to avoid grinding:
Cut down on caffeine, this could magnify your stress and cause you to clench throughout the day, or grind your teeth unknowingly at night.
Take a warm bath before bed to relax your body; this will in turn relax your jaw muscles as well.
Break chewing habits; such as chewing on pen lids.
Add more fruits and veggies to your diet, this decreases the stress on your jaw muscles.
Try a night guard to prevent wear on your teeth. Night guards can be purchased at Wal-Mart first to try one out, and if you are able to wear one, we can make you a custom stronger night guard here in our office.
Bruxism is not only a pain (literally!) it can also harm your teeth to the point of no return. Over time grinding and/or clenching your teeth can wear down the biting surfaces so badly that they may not be savable. For this reason we recommend you see your Dr.Roberts and Dr.Mahdy once a year for a check-up!
