Tips for keeping your smile healthy!

It’s not always easy to keep your dental routine in check, especially during the busy Holiday months. Here are some easy tips for keeping your mouth in tip top shape no matter how crazy your life gets!

As we know technology is taking over. Try out an electric toothbrush, these make it easier to reach all of the nooks and crannys in your mouth, especially if you suffer from arthritis or other physical disabilites that make brushing a burden. Manual toothbrushes are just as effective as electirc ones if used correctly. Regardless of the type of toothbrush you are using, you should brush for 120 seconds. If you are guilty of cutting your brushing time short check out the Delta Dental mobile app, they provide a timer that can help you hit that 120 second mark!

Getting the right nutrients in your diet is another way to keep your smile healthy. Calcium provides the skeletal structure for your teeth, so it is a very important part of your diet. 1,000 mg of calcium a day is recommended for men and women ages 19-50. Try out a free app like MyFitnessPal to keep track of your total intake, and try to avoid sugary foods and drinks.

Always remember to floss. Flossing helps to remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where your toothbrush is unable to reach. There are many options when it comes to flossing; floss picks, mint flavored string floss, and water picks are a few options to try. Follow this with brushing and mouthwash and you are good to go!

One of the most important parts of your oral health is regular dental cleanings and check-ups. Call us at (580)924-3330 to schedule your next cleaning with one of our awesome hygienists and Dr.Roberts.
